Room Service turns what you type on your iPhone into a spoken announcement on your Sonos speakers. The music gets quieter while it speaks, then carries on.
For iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Your iPhone and speakers need to be on the same Wi‑Fi.

How it works

Type anything, from “Dinner's ready” to “We're leaving in five minutes”. Messages you've sent before are one tap away.

Room Service finds your speakers on your Wi‑Fi by itself. Choose a single room or a group of rooms.

The message is spoken in that room. Whatever was playing gets quieter while it speaks, then continues.

Questions
Do I need an OpenAI account?
No. Without an API key, Room Service uses the voices built into iOS. For better quality, download Enhanced or Premium voices in Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices.
What does the OpenAI voice cost?
Room Service is free to use with the built-in voices. If you add an OpenAI API key, OpenAI bills your account for each message, usually a fraction of a cent.
Which speakers work?
Current Sonos speakers, including soundbars and portable speakers. On older models that can't play announcements over music, Room Service pauses what's playing, speaks, and then resumes it.
Does it work when I'm away from home?
No. Your iPhone sends the audio directly to your speakers, so it needs to be on the same Wi‑Fi network.
What happens to my messages?
Your message history stays on your iPhone. If you use an OpenAI voice, the message text is sent to OpenAI to create the audio. Your API key is stored in the iPhone's Keychain. Read the privacy policy.
